Risk Management Model
Back to: VRC Approach
The VRC approach adapts the risk management model for the purposes of monitoring and evaluating changes to Web resources over time. It is used to predict probable loss based on the presence or absence of key indicators that may enable or inhibit longevity.
Using
principles of risk management, as well as fundamental precepts of records
management, we have defined a series of stages an organization would progress
through when selecting, monitoring, and curating target web resources. The
classic risk management model follows a logical sequence of stages to identify,
evaluate, and respond to risk. The VRC framework
maps easily onto that model. It can be applied to Web resources to enable
monitoring along the spectrum of Web contextual
layers: a simple web page residing within a Web site residing within
a complex external environment.
VRC's risk management approach is detailed in the article: Preservation Risk Management for Web Resources in DLib Magazine, January 2002, and Virtual Remote Control: Building a Preservation Risk Management Toolbox for Web Resources in D-Lib Magazine, April 2004.
